NC man now charged after shooting and injuring Johnson County deputy last month

A North Carolina man was charged after he shot and injured a deputy in Johnson County last month. TBI agents obtained warrants charging 34 year old, Joey Allen Ponce, with attempted murder and other charges. April 22, Johnson County deputies were on the lookout for a vehicle being driven by Ponce, who was wanted in connection to an armed robbery in Watauga County, N.C. earlier that day. Deputies attempted a stop, before Ponce got out of the vehicle in the 5000 block of Highway 421 and fired shots at deputies, striking and injuring one. Deputies returned fire, hitting Ponce, who was taken to a hospital for treatment, and then taken to the Carter County Jail. He faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of evading arrest, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and one count of possession of stolen property.
