UPDATE: State Police identify pedestrian killed on I-81 Friday

The Virginia State Police has released the name of the victim killed on Interstate 81 on Friday morning.

Monty D. Bishop, 40, of Kingsport was declared dead at the scene of the crash.

The initial VSP report said an SUV driver was going southbound on the interstate near the Tennessee state line just after 6 am when they struck Bishop who was in the roadway. The driver remained on the scene until police and rescue arrived.

The SUV driver was not injured. The case remains under investigation.
