City officials schedule groundbreaking for Kingsport’s first IMAX theater

City officials in Kingsport have scheduled a news conference and ground breaking ceremony for the planned IMAX theater project at NCG Cinemas. The date is Aug 20th beginning at 11 am.

NCG was awarded millions in incentives funding to construct the movie house that will feature a 4K laser projection system.

IMAX plans have been in the works since 2023 with city planners approved permits for the project in March. The theater has a scheduled opening in May of next year.
