Unicoi County Sheriff’s office says new phone scam involves officer

Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department says a new phone scam in the area is impersonating one of their officers. A caller impersonating Captain Jeffery Greene is attempting to deceive victims into divulging personal information. The scammer’s number does not appear on caller ID and Sheriff Mike Hensley is reminding residents that no officer will ever ask for private details over the phone. Hensley said if you get a call like this to hang up immediately and contact the sheriff’s office.
