Nearly 16 hours after he stole then crashed a Washington County Sheriff’s Office SUV, manhunt suspect Michael Edwards was found in a field on Highway 36 and taken into custody just after 5 pm Wednesday.
Edwards was arrested after a traffic stop and tried to run from officers before being put into a cruiser Clearview St. The county report said one of the officers was injured during the foot pursuit.
That was when Edwards squeezed through the partition of a second police SUV and sped off, then crashed the vehicle near Cora Road near Boones Creek. After hours on the run, Edwards was cuffed and taken to the county jail in Jonesborough.

Washington County Tennessee Sheriff Keith Sexton says a man who was pulled over for a traffic violation then gained control of a police cruiser is the subject of a manhunt.
The suspect was identified as Michael Edwards, 39, who was last seen with a red t-shirt draped over his handcuffs. Sexton says Edwards is not armed but should not be approached if spotted.
Edwards reportedly stole the police SUV then crashed in the area of Cora Road outside of Boones Creek in the Oak Grove community. The TBI and Tennessee Highway Patrol have boots on the ground and officers in the air in the manhunt to find Edwards.
