JCSO arrest man for first degree murder after Thursday shooting

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after a shooting in Johnson County on Thursday. Officers arrived in the 800 block of Spear Branch Road just before 6 p.m. regarding a person found unresponsive at a residence. The individual, identified by police as 60-year-old Kirby Proffitt, had died due to a gunshot wound. An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and TBI led to the arrest of 55-year-old Kevin Proffitt. Kevin Proffitt was arrested Friday morning on one count of first-degree murder and is being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $1 million bond.
