Former Greene County teacher convicted of statutory rape ordered to prison

A former Greene County teacher and coach who pleaded guilty to statutory rape has been ordered to begin his 10-year sentence by a Criminal Court judge.

The official said Jacob Deal had violated terms of his bond conditions when he attended a sporting event involving his daughter this month in Hawkins County. Deal was ordered to register as a sex offender as part of his sentence.

Court records show Deal sexually assaulted the 14-year-old victim in his school office in 2021 and had sexual contact with the girl multiple times. Deal had been out on bond while he appealed his sentence.
