New TN laws aim for safer roadways
New laws will take effect Thursday in Tennessee that aim to make the roadways safer. Changes include bicyclist hand signals being a required part of the driver license exam in Tennessee. Two new laws will impact driver licenses for people in the U.S. Illegally. Tennessee will no longer recognize licenses from other states given to immigrants in the country illegally, and non-citizens will no longer be able to obtain a permanent Tennessee license. The state will offer temporary ones instead. Another law will increase the penalty for people suspected of drunk driving who refuse a breath or blood test. The penalty is upped from a one-year license suspension to a year and a half. And when officers get a warrant to force a sample, they will now be able to use reasonable force to help a medical professional obtain it.
