Virginia Democrats prepare to release new proposed redistricting maps
Virginia Democrats have reached an agreement on a potential new congressional map in Virginia, as they are challenging a court ruling that found their redistricting efforts are illegal. Democrats said that although the official map won’t be released until later this week, it will feature ten seats that favor Democrats, and only one that favors a Republican. Several things will need to happen for the new maps to be implemented. The Supreme Court of Virginia would have to decide that Democrats redistricting efforts are legal, voters would then have to approve a proposed conditional amendment that would allow for a mid-decade congressional redistricting, and any new map would then have to pass the General Assembly and be signed into law by Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger.
