Wise County officers box-in Ohio sexual assault suspect on Big Stone Gap highway

The chase for a suspect in a sexual assault case in Scioto County, Ohio ended on US 23 in Big Stone Gap early Tuesday near the entrance of Mountain Empire Community College when he died from a self-inflicted lethal gunshot wound.

Wise County deputies were already on the lookout for Kenneth Phillips, 47, when his SUV was spotted headed southbound.

After running over spike strips and coming to a stop, the report said officers heard a gunshot from the vehicle after he was boxed-in.
