TBI investigating after man shoots self in back of Hancock County patrol vehicle
The TBI is investigating after a man is dead after reportedly suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the back of a Hancock County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. Third Judicial District Attorney General Dan Armstrong requested agents investigate the death of 46 year old Jacob Johnson. Deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported domestic dispute on Mack Lamb Road in Sneedville Saturday night. After arriving, Johnson was taken into custody. The TBI statement says that preliminary information indicates that, while in the back of the patrol vehicle, Johnson produced a firearm and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Johnson was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. The investigation into what led up to the incident continues.
