Sonny Came Home: Korean War soldier from Coeburn laid to rest
On this Memorial Day weekend, a family in Wise County is finally welcoming home a soldier who was killed in action during the Korean War.
Private First Class John Henry “Sonny” Moore was 19-years-old when he was reported missing after his death in September of 1950 in South Korea. His remains were found in 2022 then identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
Moore received a police escort from Knoxville to Coeburn where he was laid to rest with full military honors and beside of his brother Sidney Moore who served in the US Air Force.
