Supermax Red Onion Prison officers taken for medical care following incident
Few details were released Thursday evening about an incident at the supermax Red Onion State Prison.
A statement from the Department of Corrections said two Red Onion correctional officers were assaulted by an inmate at the Wise County facility. The injuries required the officers to be transported to an area hospital, according to the agency.
It marks the second reported incident at Red Onion involving prisoners and guards-correctional officials said four Red Onion personnel were ambushed by inmates including one member of the MS-13 crime gang last January and received serious injuries.
Former Department of Corrections director and Wise County judge Chad Dotson refuted claims of racism, unfit conditions and long stretches of confinement were confirmed following state investigation results at Red Onion released in January.
