One runway shut down at Tri-Cities Airport as repairs are made
UPDATE, 6:10 p.m.
A statement issued by Tri-Cities Airport says until the damaged portion of one runway, all flights will be impacted:
Until the issue on Runway 5/23 is resolved, airline flights will be unable to operate as normal. Decisions regarding delays or cancellations are made by the individual airlines, and passengers should check directly with their airline for the latest information regarding their flight.
The airport is actively evaluating the damage and will provide airlines with an estimated repair timeline as soon as that information is available to assist them in their operational planning.

A runway at Tri-Cities Airport has been taken out of commission due to repairs.
A report from the facility Tuesday evening said Runway 5/23 was examined and a condition was identified and is being worked on indefinitely. The airport statement said there was no estimated timetable for reopening the landing strip while safety officials assessed the situation and complete a repair plan. Runway 9/27 remains operational.
Tuesday was also the first day of construction repair on the airport’s premium lot that will require passengers and visitors to park their vehicles in the economy lots.
Here is the official statement issued by Tri-Cities Airport:
Blountville, Tenn – Tri-Cities Airport has temporarily closed Runway 5/23 until further notice following the identification of a condition requiring evaluation and repair.
Airport personnel and are actively assessing the situation and developing a repair plan.
A timeline for reopening has not yet been determined. The runway will remain closed until all necessary repairs have been completed and the runway is cleared to return to service.
Runway 9/27 remains open at this time.
