Unicoi 911 dispatcher helps father deliver baby over the phone
Early Monday morning, a Unicoi 911 dispatcher helped a father deliver his child over the phone. According to a social post from Unicoi 911 District, at 1:14 a.m., a call came in from the father saying the mother was going into labor. Dispatcher Sheila Simerly helped provide “lifesaving instructions” to the father, while Supervisor Cheyanne Parks spoke to responding units. The healthy newborn then arrived a few minutes later at 1:20 a.m. The post says in part that “When seconds mattered most, Simerly remained calm, confident, and focused, helping ensure a safe outcome for both mother and baby.”
