Man accused of Milligan University cycling crash arrested for probation violation in NC
The man accused of vehicular homicide in the crash that killed two Milligan University cyclists has again been arrested in North Carolina. John Benfield is in police custody in Avery County, for violating the conditions of his release. Benfield waived extradition and will be transported back to Carter County. Benfield was charged with two counts of reckless vehicular homicide and five counts of reckless aggravated assault by vehicle after a crash on Highway 19E in Carter County, Aug. 19. He was released from jail Aug. 20 after posting a $300,000 bond. The court had imposed conditions for Benfield’s release, which prohibited him from driving and required him to submit to drug and alcohol testing. It has not been specified which conditions of the release had not been met.
