South Carolina man facing attempted murder of law enforcement officer
An 18-year-old South Carolina man has been charged with attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer following a chase in Bristol. A 2017 Jaguar XE was reported stolen from the 400 block of Carter Street on Thursday. Investigators later identified Peyton Jack Finch of Gaffney, South Carolina, as a suspect. During a traffic stop, Finch allegedly accelerated toward a detective, forcing the officer to move out of the way before the vehicle fled. The vehicle hit two parked vehicles on West State Street and left the scene. Officers took Finch into custody following a brief foot chase. Finch is charged in Virginia with attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer and grand larceny of a motor vehicle. He also faces multiple charges in Tennessee. Finch is being held as a fugitive from justice pending extradition to Virginia. Police said the investigation remains ongoing with additional charges possible.
