UPDATE: Body pulled from Boone Lake identified

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man whose body was recovered from Boone Lake Tuesday morning after reports of a person jumping from the Highway 11E bridge in Bluff City.

The victim was 35-year-old Aaron Mathes of Johnson City, according to the report. Mathes’ body was found by a Boone Lake fisherman just after 7:30 that morning after witnesses told deputies they heard a cry for help and saw something fall from the bridge’s deck. The case is still under investigation.

A Sheriff’s Office statement said no foul play is suspected in Mathes’ death.
