Washington County TN set to upgrade emergency alert systems with FEMA grant
Washington County is getting a major upgrade to its emergency alert systems. The State of Tennessee announced that the county is receiving support through FEMA’s $10.6 million Next Generation Warning System grant. According to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, the funds will be used to modernize and expand outdoor warning sirens. It will also build a new multimodal rural alerting system—which features digital signs, satellite nodes, and multilingual software to keep residents informed in areas with poor cell coverage. The new systems will roll out over a three-year period through 2029.
