Washington County, Virginia Files 50 Million Dollar Opioid Lawsuit
Washington County, Virginia is the latest county in the southwest Virginia Commonwealth to file a lawsuit against more than a dozen prescription opioid manufacturers and distributors. A 50 million dollar lawsuit filed states at least eight people in the county died from opioid overdoses in 2015 and neonatal abstinence sysndrome was more than four times greater than the state’s average. The suit further claims the state’s Hepatitis C cases are nearly five times greater than the average in Virginia . Washington County claims the defendants created a public health emergency in the county.
