Dickenson school leaders taking board of supervisors to court to decide new elementary school site

Years of haggling over a site for a new elementary school in Dickenson County could be settled in Circuit Court. A lawsuit has been filed by the county’s school board against the Board of Supervisors and IDA with school leaders asking for the final say in the location of the proposed $24 million project. Court documents show the school board wants to construct the building near Ridgeview High School while county leaders have expressed interest in sites in Haysi and Sandlick. Funding for the project was secured in 2010 with an agreement with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
