Virginia House of Delegates passes bill proposed to end qualified immunity for police

Legislation that would end qualified immunity for Virginia police officers has passed the House of Delegates after the bill was revived for a second time.

Lawmakers approved the measure Tuesday, which allows for lawsuits to proceed in court filed by citizens against police officers who they claim violated their constitutional rights. The bill was previously killed in committee and narrowly voted against once in the House, but following some revisions, passed a second time yesterday by four votes.

The legislation now heads to the state senate, who has already rejected a similar bill.
