Labor Day Weekend Traffic Crashes Claim 17 Lives In Virginia…One In Our Region
Seventeen individuals lost their lives on Virginia roadways during the recent four day holiday period that ended midnight Monday. The seventeen deaths match the number of fatalities reported last year and was an increase from 2018 numbers when there were fourteen and a considerable spike from 2017 when there were only five traffic fatalities reported. The majority of the fatal crashes occurred after dark and at least five of those that lost their lives were not wearing a seatbelt. Of the fifteen crashes reported, Bland County reported the only traffic fatality in southwest Virginia.
