Cannabis Manufacturer Competing for License Seeks to Open Plant in Russell County
The competition for the Southwest Virginia license to produce and distribute cannabidiol oils is heating up. In August, the Virginia Board of Pharmacy is anticipated to announce five licenses for the manufacture of the substance.
Recently, Dharma Pharmaceuticals, one of the many applicants seeking to win the bid for the license, announced plans to move into the old Bristol Mall, but another competitor also has its sites set on opening a facility in Russell County.
Organa Brands, already operates in 11 different state markets, and now hopes to expand in Virginia. It is filed an application and partnership with Vista Clinical to produce and distribute the oil at a Lebanon location.
The project, if awarded a license, could create 18 to 25 jobs immediately, with further employment possibilities. Officials in Russell County say these plans fit well with the county’s economic goals.
