Johnson City releases video statement on new transparency website detailing legal steps of Sean Williams case

“In the many years I have served you, I have never had to speak of evil. But today, that is the word that adequately describes a man who lived among us–Sean Williams.”

Councilwoman Jenny Brock gives a statement in a social media posting made Tuesday along with Mayor John Hunter announcing a transparency website that they hope will answer questions surrounding the city’s handling of the Sean Williams case.

Hunter said he hoped the multi-million settlement reached in the Jane Doe case will give Williams’ victims a better path forward while explaining the city’s chain of information has been compounded by pending litigation. “…We understand and share the frustration about how limited (city agencies) in what we can disclose, but we’re trying, and that’s why we’ve worked to develop an informational website that offers a centralized location for everything that we are able to communicate at this time,” the mayor said.

Williams, a former owner of buildings in the downtown area, is currently serving prison time for his conviction on child porn charges. The women taking part in the city lawsuit accused Williams of drugging them then sexually assaulting them in his apartment. Police have also reported that the children of some of the female victims were allegedly sexually abused by Williams.
