TN files lawsuit against “Roblox” online gaming platform
Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the online gaming platform of “luring children into an environment it knows is dangerous but promises is safe.” The suit says that Roblox has deceived Tennesseans about the serious safety risks its platform poses for kids and places profits above child safety. The complaint says Roblox does not verify a user’s given age upon signup, which makes it easy for children to create an account and allows predators to use the platform as the “first step” to contact children. Officials also say that Roblox has been used by child exploitation groups to find and groom vulnerable children before coercing them into producing explicit and self-harm material. The Attorney’s General Office is working with Nashville-based firm Stranch, Jennings & Garvey to prosecute the complex litigation on behalf of the state.
