Two Cocke County HS students charged after pellet gun found on campus
Two Cocke County High School students are criminally charged following an investigation by Newport police into a handgun being brought on campus.
A published report said the school’s student resource officer was informed of the possible gun possession resulting in the SRO and administrators visiting the juvenile in a classroom then escorting them to the office.
The facility was placed on lockdown while the student’s weapon was taken from a bookbag and examined with investigators concluding it was an unloaded pellet gun.
Both students were given a juvenile petition for carrying a weapon on school property while they were expelled from the school and future events.
