JC Planning Commission moves forward with annexation for new housing
The Johnson City Planning Commission has approved a plan of services and zoning assignment for two parcels on Hopper Road where 37 new single-family homes can be built. The owners of the 13-acre property requested city annexation, and the City Commission unanimously voted April 16 to proceed with the request. The property fronts Indian Ridge Road and Hopper Road. Tuesday night, after hearing some concerns from residents about traffic and drainage in the vicinity of Woodland Elementary school, the Planning Commission approved the plan. The property owners previously proposed 100 housing units, but city commissioners expressed concerns about the density of the proposed development, and the request was changed from townhomes to 37 single-family homes. The plan will now go before the City Commission, with the first reading scheduled for the commission’s June 4 meeting. A public hearing will be held on the third reading scheduled for July 2.
