TDOT and VDOT to suspend work zone closures for 4th of July holiday travel
The Tennessee Department of Transportation says it will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstate and state routes from noon on Thursday, July 2, through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, to provide maximum roadway capacity for July 4th holiday travelers. AAA predicts most travelers will drive to their destinations this year, with 1.4 million Tennesseans estimated to be hitting the roadways. Last week, VDOT announced that it will suspend many highway work zones from noon on Thursday, July 2 until noon on Monday, July 6. While lane closures will be lifted in most locations in Virginia and Tennessee, motorists may still encounter semi-permanent work zones that will remain in place.
