Deer collision in Southwest Virginia leads to deadly chain reaction crash
A deadly chain reaction crash in Southwest Virginia is under investigation by State Police.
The incident occurred on Sunday when a pickup traveling southbound on Interstate 77 in Carroll County struck a deer, resulting in the two occupants being ejected from the vehicle.
Following the deer impact, a minivan driven by 60-year-old Lee Gaddies of Charlotte lost control on the highway and then hit the two people ejected. Candace Keith, 37, of Wytheville died at the scene while the other passenger was seriously injured.
Gaddies faces one count of reckless driving and was also hospitalized with injuries.
