Kingsport wants you to be prepared and cautious for heat conditions this holiday weekend
With a forecast featuring severe heat conditions, planners at Visit Kingsport are asking fans headed to Saturday’s Red, White, and Boom event downtown to schedule their arrival times for later in the afternoon.
Their statement said concert-goers should start making their seating arrangements after 3 p.m. when visitor gates open to lessen the amount of heat exposure issues.
A recent forecast from the National Weather Service in Morristown says heat index values will be near 106 degrees for the holiday weekend.
Tips from the Centers for Disease Control on dealing with extreme heat if you choose to be outdoors:
– Stay hydrated with water or other non-carbonated drinks. Alcohol is a diuretic and can make heat exposure worse by causing your heart to work harder to cool down, increasing the risk for dehydration, heatstroke or heart attack while also lowering your blood pressure
– Wear white, loose fitting clothing
– Do research to determine if your daily medications make you more susceptible to heat conditions
– Wear big-brimmed hats or other head coverings
– Use sunscreen if you are outside and reapply every couple of hours
