Carter County Commission approves moratorium on data centers
Like other localities across the U.S., the Carter County Commission voted and approved a moratorium on data centers and crypto mining for one year on Monday night. County leaders say the moratorium will allow the county to investigate environmental and community impacts. The Hawkins County Commission already passed a resolution that would ban data centers and cryptocurrency mines in the county and that has sparked a federal lawsuit from ExoticRidge Crypto Company LLC, which is interested in building a data center in the Bulls Gap area of the county.
