Members of the Milligan cyclist team hit by vehicle, 2 fatalities confirmed, multiple people injured

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a deadly crash involving a vehicle and multiple bicycles on Highway 19E. Carter County authorities report 2 on scene fatalities and multiple victims being treated and at least 1 flown from the scene. Drivers should avoid the area while emergency crews work the scene between Hampton and Roan Mountain near Simerly Creek Road. A statement from Ballad Health said that the bicyclists involved were part of Milligan University’s cycling team and that trauma surgeons were at Johnson City Medical Center and ready to respond.
