Newport Nightmare takes potential final checkered flag at Bulls Gap’s Volunteer Speedway
After a social media posting about the closure of Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap and then a retraction from promoter Vic Hill, there is still no clear answer on the future of the track.
Hill’s statement from earlier this month said track ownership had sold the property and the facility would be bulldozed for commercial use, but hours later, in another brief, said the sale had not been finalized.
A potential final race at Volunteer was fielded Thursday night with the Newport Nightmare Jimmy Owens winning the FloRacing Night in America 50-lap feature, his first victory in 2026, and took home the $20,000 payday.
