Second incident in a week’s time investigated at Northeast Correctional
The second incident in the last two weeks involving inmates at the Northeast Correctional Complex is under investigation.
A report from the Department of Corrections said two inmates were in an altercation with one of them requiring medical treatment. No officers were injured. Last week, a brawl inside the Johnson County facility resulted in four inmates being sent to the hospital.
It’s the just the latest in a string of investigations based off fights and lockdowns in the last ten years at the Mountain City prison. Those include an inmate death in September, an officer attacked by an prisoner in May of 2022, a total of 8 inmates injured in fights in 2019, and correctional workers intercepting a large package of contraband that included 70 cellphones, suboxone, marijuana, and 50 pounds of tobacco products.
Northeast inmate Jerrod Jones was given an additional six-year prison sentence in April after he was convicted on charges related to a 2022 incident where investigators said Jones stabbed a facility worker 25 times.
