Sullivan County Budget Commission votes against tax hike
The Sullivan County Budget Commission voted against adding new taxes to next year’s budget. During Wednesday’s meeting, the commission discussed how best to handle a $6.2 million budget deficit. Dwight King, chairman of the budget commission, said the county’s fund balance is healthy and that it can reallocate funds between departments. King went on to say the commission is aware that residents of Sullivan County are struggling financially and does not feel that raising taxes is the best answer. King said the departments undergoing a change in funding approved the reallocation of funds. The vote from the budget commission will be presented to the full commission at its meeting on Thursday.
