Bristol, Virginia child reported missing in South Carolina found dead near rental home

A 5-year-old non-verbal child from Bristol, Virginia who was the subject of a search on Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, was found in waters near the home her family had rented.

A report from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said the body of Saylor Hayes was discovered just before 10 am Monday morning after she was reported missing Sunday afternoon before noon. Hundreds of law enforcement officers along with ships from the US Coast Guard and local agencies spent all of Sunday trying to find Saylor.

A public information officer for Georgetown County said foul play is not suspected in the child’s death. A preliminary report said the child wandered off on her own from the house located in the Hagley Estates area of the island.
