TN voters to decide amendment to constitution to permanently ban state property taxes
When you head to the polls in Tennessee this November, you’ll be deciding more than just elected offices. Tennessee voters will also cast their ballots on Amendment 2—a proposed constitutional amendment to permanently ban state-level property taxes. The Volunteer State hasn’t actually collected a state property tax since 1949, but the legal authority to bring it back still exists in the state constitution. Supporters argue passing Amendment 2 will proactively protect homeowners and first-time buyers from future tax hikes. Note that this amendment will not affect the local property taxes levied by your city or county. Look for it as Amendment 2 on your statewide ballot; in-person early voting kicks off this Wednesday, October 14th.
