Apples on Main unveiled in Erwin
Residents and town officials gathered in Erwin Friday to celebrate a new art installation, Apples on Main. The Apple Art Walk is a permanent downtown art display that celebrates Erwin’s heritage and the beloved Unicoi County Apple Festival, which has been held for 49 years. There are eight large apples along a five-block section on Main Street. The apples were uniquely designed by local artists to reflect Unicoi County’s outdoor recreation and nature. Each apple has a QR code on their bases that lead to a website with a description of the apple and an explanation of which tourism asset it represents. Town officials said that although Apples on Main is a tourism project, one of those apples also reflects Unicoi County’s resiliency after Hurricane Helene.
